Our services for private homes
We help you through all or part of the process
Echoes (reverberation) occur in all types of rooms that do not have enough "soft materials" where the sound waves can find rest. This often occurs in modern houses due to the choice of materials and minimalist building trends. It can be in bedrooms, in rooms where many people are gathered and often when listening to music or watching TV. Children and adults can find this annoying and it can lead to poor sleep, difficulty concentrating, headaches and stress and more long-term problems if it persists. It is particularly troublesome for the hearing impaired and the elderly.
It can be very easy to improve. A combination of sound-absorbing ceilings, sound-absorbing panels on walls and ceilings, carpets and fabric furniture, acoustic pictures, plants and decorations can be added to any home to soften the sound.
The most important thing you can do is contact us to hear how we can help you and arrange a sound measurement, a calculation, product guidance or just have a non-binding conversation. Contact us
Would you like us to visit you? We come and do an acoustic sound measurement, measure the area and take pictures. You tell us how you experience the problem. Feel free to fill in the form further down the page.
We make calculations based on the Norwegian Standard NS8175, regulation "Sound in Buildings", which recommends a maximum reverberation time of 0.5 seconds, and experience-based solutions. Experience shows that it provides a comfortable sound level that private customers are very satisfied with. But if you want more attenuation, we will of course calculate it (we calculate what we experience as a minimum). The experience of sound is very individual and it's up to you to decide.
You will receive the results of the acoustic measurements and a calculation of how much (number of square metres) soundproofing needed in the area in question. Together we agree on a solution, choice of type of absorbent and location. You will receive a cost estimate for the installation and a quote for materials and other useful information.
We send you the necessary materials. We take care of the installation or you install it yourself by following our installation instructions. Feel free to visit our showroom for a review and demonstration of various solutions and products.
The prerequisite for achieving an optimal sound control result is that a calculation is first made of the acoustics in the room/area in question and that it is then calculated what needs to be done to bring the area into compliance with current regulations.
If you are not near us or want a simpler calculation. Read more under the next point Acoustics remote assessment & rating.
Are you far away from us, or want a simpler solution? Not all assessments need to be done on-site. We also have digitised inspections and conduct remote assessments where we find the solution for you online.
Two options:
- We can easily help you with an experience-based calculation. You send us some factual information and we calculate your approximate absorption needs, recommend product and location and price. This is free of charge. You can find the form further down this page.
-
You send us measurements of the area in question, preferably a simple floor plan or simple sketch and photos. We make calculations based on the Norwegian Standard NS8175, regulation "Sound in Buildings", which recommends a maximum reverberation time of 0.5 seconds, and experience-based solutions. Experience shows that it provides a comfortable sound level that private customers are very satisfied with. However, if you want more attenuation, we will of course calculate it (we calculate the recommendation as a minimum). The experience of sound is very individual and it's you who decides.
You will receive calculations including how much (number of square metres) sound insulation is needed in the area in question. We agree on the solution, choice of absorber type and location. You will receive a quote and other useful information. If you want a review, we can organise a telephone or digital meeting.
After the acoustic sound measurement & inspection has been completed, you will receive the results of the acoustic measurements and a calculation of requirements (number of m2). Together we agree on a solution and choice of absorbers. We prepare a cost estimate for installation if desired and a quotation for materials. Acoustic calculations and other useful information are also included. Based on all this, we prepare a complete solution for you to the best of our ability.
In Norway, "sound in buildings" is regulated by a separate regulation. We always use the current standards NS8175 and NS8178 (music and rehearsal rooms), both of which are included in TEK10/17, as the basis for our calculations and recommendations. The regulation recommends that private homes have a maximum reverberation time of 0.5 seconds.
Acoustics in all types of buildings are regulated in these regulations.
Once you have received all the information from us following the previous step, we review this and agree on a solution for you based on your needs and wishes. We prepare the solution and choice of products based on this, the information we have received and the nature of the room. Unless otherwise agreed, we always recommend the best and most affordable solution. When reviewing the solution, you can make the changes you want, you can choose other products and we can put together a different type of solution if desired. The solution includes everything you need to complete the installation.
We provide door-to-door delivery or you can collect from our central warehouse.
Recommended soundproofing products will comply with applicable CE regulations and be M1 certified. You can read more here.
- We take care of the installation. Installation is carried out by experienced and professional installers. We check whether we have an agreement with an installer in your area. You will receive a price estimate and other information.
- You carry out the installation yourself. Many people choose to do the installation themselves, it doesn't have to be that complicated. Remember to follow the installation instructions. We have created installation guides for all our products. You can find these here.
- You provide your own fitter. We don't have installers in your area or you want to arrange for an installer yourself. Then make sure that the installer receives the right installation instructions here.
You get help from A to Z regardless of the solution.
After finalised installation, we can carry out an acoustic sound measurement and control according to NS8175 and NS EN ISO 16283-1 2014 (method). Current NS8175 and NS EN ISO 16283-1 2014 (method). This is done to document the result in relation to the goals set and in relation to current regulations. Performed where we have carried out acoustic sound measurement and on-site inspection and where our recommendations have been followed. Not carried out by remote assessment or simple calculation. Not performed if another solution and supplier of materials has been used.
Are you experiencing problems with step sound and sound between rooms?
In a detached house, between floors or from the apartment below or above your own? Sound penetration is challenging to get rid of as sound can propagate in the building structure and can follow ventilation, beams, through walls, small holes and leaks, etc.
We can help you. Sometimes the sound disappears completely, other times there is still some sound. But it will get better!
What do you do now? Don't despair - we'll help you further
Do it yourself: you can calculate needs and choose products yourself. See the selection here.

Fact box
Norwegian Acoustics Centre is a specialist centre for sound control in all types of buildings, and we have developed a system for measuring and mapping acoustics in all types of buildings. Based on the exact information we obtain through measurements, we calculate and describe the measures needed to achieve the correct acoustics in relation to the area of use and in relation to current regulations.
We help you with the entire process, from A to Z. We measure and calculate in accordance with the requirements set out in the NS 8175 and NS8178 standards, which are part of TEK10 and TEK17. We measure acoustics in rooms according to NS-ISO3382-1 & 2, which describes measurement procedures, measurement points and measurements for all types of rooms. We use internationally recognised measuring equipment, including Norsonic 131. Norsonic is one of the market leaders in acoustic measuring equipment.
NAS employees who perform measurements have been trained in the use of the measuring equipment and procedures at Norsonic.
